Happy Feet School of Dance

Happy Feet School of Dance, also known as Happy Feet Dance Academy, is a dance school founded in May 2000 by Julie Rynne, who serves as Founder and Principal Instructor. The school has over two decades of experience in dance education within the South Birmingham community and fosters inclusive and accessible opportunities for dance participation across all age groups and ability levels. Classes are taught by experienced instructors and dedicated volunteers at a well-equipped studio located within The Hub, Hazelwell, which provides a dedicated, supportive environment for students.

The school is based in Hazelwell, South Birmingham, with classes held at The Hub, Hazelwell, 318 Vicarage Road, Kings Heath, Birmingham, B14 7NH.

The school offers dance instruction in Ballet, Tap, and Freestyle. Classes include Preparatory, Primary, and Grades 1, 2, 4, and 5 in Ballet and Tap plus Freestyle, as well as Tots Dance Class and Mixed Abilities classes for adults. The school offers unique multi-day class offerings rather than only once-a-week scheduling. Additional offerings include workshops, annual shows, online training, summer schools, junior associates, and funding guidance as enrichment and support options.

Students of all age groups and ability levels can join. Classes are available for children and adults. Registration for classes is available through the Class for Kids system.

The school caters for ages 2 to 18+ years. Specific age ranges include 2-4 years, 3-6 years, 3-7 years, 5-7 years, 5-9 years, 8-11 years, 10-13 years, 13-17 years, 15-18 years, and 18+ for adults. Classes are available for all ability levels, including Mixed Abilities classes for adults.

The school organizes periodic showcases and performance events, including regular mini shows for classes and larger shows less frequently. Pupils over 3 years can take examinations in the IDTA syllabus. The school has had student success with National Youth Arts Trust and provides guidance on external junior associate programmes and funding opportunities.

The school supports IDTA exam preparation, with pupils over 3 years able to take examinations in the IDTA syllabus. Classes follow graded progression from Preparatory through Primary and Grades 1, 2, 4, and 5 in Ballet and Tap plus Freestyle.

The school organizes periodic showcases and performance events, including regular mini shows for classes and larger shows less frequently. An awards ceremony is held for students. The school also organizes events such as Tapathon.
