Joburg Ballet is a full-time professional ballet company based at Joburg Theatre in Johannesburg, South Africa. The company presents three major seasons each year at its home venue and tours to other regions within South Africa and internationally. Its repertoire includes full-length classical ballets, shorter works, and original creations by South African and international choreographers. The company is led by Chief Executive Officer Elroy Fillis-Bell and Artistic Director Dane Hurst.
The company operates Joburg Ballet School and Joburg Ballet Academy as training facilities. The School, opened in 2012, provides ballet instruction at three levels for young dancers with or without previous training, with a focus on students from historically disadvantaged communities. The Academy offers pre-professional training in classical and contemporary dance for students aged 13 to 16. The company also runs Satellite Schools for community-based development and outreach work. An Aspirant Programme provides a one-year course for aspiring dancers, with participants taking company classes and performing in productions before being evaluated for potential company contracts.
