School of Madison Ballet is a classical ballet training institution in Madison, Wisconsin, established in 2005 as the official training institute for Madison Ballet at the Overture Center. The school serves nearly 200 students annually across all ages and abilities, from 18 months through adults. Classes are held at two locations, including the main facility and the Madison Youth Arts Center on the city’s East Side.
The school offers four main divisions: Children’s Division (ages 18 months to 7), School Division (ages 6 to 18), Trainee Division (by audition or invitation only), and Open Division (ages 12 and up). The Children’s Division includes parent-child classes and creative movement. The School Division provides progressive training through Primary, Intermediate, and Advance levels, with classes in technique, pointe, men’s class, conditioning, and modern dance. The Trainee Division offers daily training for students preparing for professional dance careers. The Open Division provides drop-in ballet classes for recreational dancers, including beginner-focused programs called Ballet 101 and Ballet 102.
Many technique classes feature live piano accompaniment. The school provides financial assistance to approximately 15% of its students annually. Faculty members include former professional dancers from major companies.
