The Slovak National Theatre is a cultural institution based in Bratislava, Slovakia. Established in 1920, it operates as a performing arts company with three professional ensembles. These ensembles focus on drama, opera, and ballet. The company presents its regular performance season from September to June.
The Drama ensemble performs classical plays and modern works by Slovak and international writers. The Opera company stages traditional and contemporary operas. The Ballet ensemble performs classical story ballets as well as neoclassical and contemporary dance pieces. The three ensembles produce new shows each season alongside returning productions from their standard repertoire.
The organisation performs primarily at its home venues in Bratislava. The ensembles also travel to perform in other Slovak cities and go on international tours. The institution supports community engagement by organising educational events, including pre-performance lectures and arts workshops for children and young adults.
