tanzinwinterthur is an organization that supports professional contemporary dance in the Winterthur region. Founded in 1988 by Ruth Girod, Ludmilla Weber, Elvi Leu, and Susi Ludwig, it provides structures for local and regional professional dancers and aims to make contemporary dance accessible to the public. The organization operates at TanzOrt am Gleis, located at Untere Vogelsangstrasse 2, next to Winterthur main station.
The organization offers professional training classes twice weekly: contemporary dance on Tuesdays and ballet on Thursdays, both from 09:30 to 11:00. Advanced non-professionals may participate with approval. It provides a rehearsal space for professional dance practitioners, featuring a dance floor measuring approximately 12 meters by 12 meters. The organization also maintains Tanznetz Winterthur, a digital network listing dance teachers in the area who offer styles including contemporary, modern, ballet, jazz, improvisation, and creative dance.
Additional offerings have included workshops such as a kids’ dance workshop for children aged 7–9 and Gaga/dancers classes for dancers and advanced students aged 16 and older. The organization organizes the Tanzfestival Winterthur and receives support from the City of Winterthur.
