Rotterdam, a major city in the Netherlands, has ballet as a part of its cultural scene, with opportunities for dancers to engage in professional companies and training institutions. The city supports ballet through establishments that stage performances and offer training, as well as facilities for ballet supplies.
The most prominent ballet company in Rotterdam is the Scapino Ballet Rotterdam. This company focuses on both classical and contemporary technique. They hold auditions for dancers with experience, typically requiring 5 to 10 years of professional work. Auditions provide opportunities for both temporary and permanent positions.
For ballet schools and classes, Codarts Rotterdam offers a comprehensive dance education including daily ballet classes as part of their bachelor’s degree dance program. They emphasize technical development and artistic expression. Additionally, Talvandansen provides ballet classes for adults, focusing on the Vaganova Method, with separate levels for beginners and experienced dancers.
Auditions for the Scapino Ballet Rotterdam are regularly scheduled and announced, requiring submission of CVs and videos demonstrating ballet and contemporary dance skills. These auditions attract dancers aiming to join the professional company in Rotterdam. Other ballet events and competitions are less frequently highlighted but the city serves as a platform for such professional engagements.
For ballet supplies, Balletwinkel Rotterdam is a key shop offering ballet-specific items like balletwear, ballet shoes, and pointe shoes with professional fittings. This store allows walk-in shopping, serving both children and adults engaged in ballet. Another notable store is Danswinkel Rotterdam, which offers a wide array of ballet products and professional advice with walk-in service available.
Ballet dancers in Rotterdam benefit from local access to professional training and ballet company auditions. In case of needs beyond Rotterdam’s offerings, dancers often look to nearby cities such as The Hague or Amsterdam for additional ballet schools, companies, and supply options. This regional context supports ballet dancers seeking varied experiences and resources.
